I thought I should 'ave died. Knocked 'em in the Old Kent Road! "
Strange opening line?
Not really, when put in context....
WOT CHEER(Knocked 'Em in the Old Kent Road), Composed by Charles Ingle, is a traditional Old Time Music Hall Song.
Wot Cheer and laughter filled Sowerby Bridge WMC, Halifax last Friday evening.
When Colonel Custard, aka Roy Atkinson, suggested an Old Time Music Hall as a fund raiser, I never expected a whole host of professional entertainers to take part.
Roy, a children's entertainer, is a very talented man. He can entertain for hours with his songs, his stories and his one man band. The first time I met Roy I was laughing until I cried at the things he was telling Andy and I about his life as an entertainer. A very rich tapestry.
Roy and Anne, his lovely wife and his support behind scenes, promised a night full of fun; and that's what we got. There was something for everyone form traditional Music Hall songs, led by Amy- Rose Atkinson to the CanCan by the Whitley School of Dancing.
My thanks to all the professionals for giving up their time and providing such talent.
Thank you to Sowerby Bridge WMC for donating the use of the club for the night.
To Anne Atkinson - for organising Roy.
To Amy- Rose Atkinson for everything
and huge applauds to Colonel Custard.
Our thoughts go out to Roy, Anne, Amy-Rose and family, for the tragic loss of their daughter and sister, Tracey. Andy and I send our love.
